Recession
The Govenment have finally confirmed what we already knew - that we are in a recession.
There are lots of e mails and well meaning agency seminars around to help licencees, but many of them are a bit patronising - or not very well targeted at our industry.
At All Things Bar we have no wish to patronise, so offer the following brief advice:
Consider the needs of your customers rather than your own.
It's well documented that people stay in more during a recession, so why not appeal to their need to socilaise rather than discounting you profits?
A friendly note letterdropped in your area that reminds people that instead of listening to depressing news on the TV, that there's a place where they can relax and share the company of some real people may do the trick. Promote your bar as a friendly break from the recession - and even boast that such talk is banned!
Keep looking for opportunities
They are out there. Many of your competitors may be cutting back and this could be your chance to fill a gap.
Consider different ways to save costs
Many bars are reducing their opening times - which can make large savings on wage and energy costs, but also allows managers to focus on tasks that normally keep them away from working front of house while closed and allows them more time front of house to both save further wage costs and to promote themselves and the business.
